Guiding question:
Will birds avoid a bird feeder with music nearby?

I chose this question because I am very interested in bird songs and the comparison to human songs.
Procedure for investigation:
  • Set up 2 bird feeders near the house right next to each other and put seeds in them
  • Leave them up for a couple days so that the birds can find them.
  • Observe and count the birds that come for 15 min, from 4:55 pm to 5:10.
  • The next day, observe and count the birds that come to the bird feeders again for the same set period of time.
  • The next day, observe and count the birds that come to the bird feeders again for the same set period of time.
  • Refill the bird feeders to the same level of food as was in there at the beginning.
  • Add music near the bird feeders and cover it with shrubbery and such, so that the birds can't see the music player.
  • Observe and count the birds for the same set period of time as before.
  • The next day, observe and count the birds that come to the bird feeders again for the same set period of time.
  • The next day, observe and count the birds that come to the bird feeders again for the same set period of time.
  • Compare results and data.
Materials:

Two bird feeders, music player, house, seeds, possibly an extension cord, shrubbery and such....

These are pictures that I took of the bird feeders I am using.
Hypothesis:
I think that the birds will like the ones without music because that is what they are used to.
Independent Variable:
The presence of music.

Dependent Variable:
# of birds that come in the set periods of time.

Control Variables:
Amount of seed, type of seed, type of feeder, type of house, placement of feeder. . .

Additional things you should know:
At first, no birds were coming to my feeder, so I placed more feeders around the house. I noticed that the feeders in front of my house were getting more attention, so I decided to do my experiment with those instead. I had not actually started counting birds, so it didn't matter and I didn't have to change anything.
